The Chief Medical Director of Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, on Thursday, February 26, 2026, received a major donation of drugs and medical consumables from the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Bernard Doro.
The items, handed over during a brief ceremony at the hospital premises in Makurdi, are specifically earmarked to support the treatment and care of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) receiving medical attention at BSUTH. The donation forms part of ongoing federal efforts to alleviate the health burden on displaced communities in Benue State, which continues to host one of the highest numbers of IDPs in the country due to persistent insecurity and communal clashes.
Dr. Hwande expressed appreciation for the minister’s timely intervention, noting that the supplies would significantly ease pressure on the hospital’s resources and improve healthcare delivery to vulnerable patients, particularly those displaced from farming communities. He assured that the items would be judiciously utilised for their intended purpose.
The minister’s visit and donation underscore the federal government’s commitment to supporting state-level health facilities that serve large populations of IDPs and host communities. BSUTH has remained a critical referral centre for displaced persons across the state, providing emergency and specialised care amid limited resources.
The gesture has been welcomed by hospital staff, patients, and community leaders, who described it as a practical demonstration of compassion and solidarity with those affected by violence and displacement in Benue.
