What was supposed to be a quiet celebration of love turned into one of the messiest public spectacles in Benue State this December.
On December 11, 2025, as many couples marked their wedding anniversaries with sweet posts and family photos, a glowing tribute from Asortar James Asortar, Special Assistant on Social Media to the Benue State Governor, went viral for all the wrong reasons.
Asortar had taken to Facebook to celebrate his 4th wedding anniversary with his wife, Faith, describing December 11, 2021, as “a day overflowing with joy, blessings, and family love.” He thanked God for sustaining their home and praised his wife for bringing “peace, growth, and fulfillment” into his life, ending with a heartfelt: “Thank you, Awuhe Faith Faith, for coming into my life; so much has changed for the better because of you. Happy Marriage Anniversary to us!”
The post, warm and emotional, quickly gained traction, until it caught the eye of someone who clearly wasn’t in a celebratory mood: Ukeyima John UKmoni, a prominent Benue-based real estate businessman.
UKmoni, whose own marriage collapsed barely three months ago, didn’t hold back.
In a now-deleted but widely circulated outburst, he publicly accused Asortar of playing a destructive role in the breakdown of his home, reopening deep wounds on what would have been his own 5th wedding anniversary.
The timing was brutal. While Asortar was celebrating marital bliss, UKmoni was grieving the death of his own union, and he made sure everyone knew exactly who he blamed.
Screenshots of UKmoni’s emotional comments spread like wildfire across Benue’s online communities, igniting heated debates, side-taking, and endless gossip. Many were shocked at the raw pain on display; others questioned the wisdom of airing such personal grievances in public.
As reactions continue to flood social media, what began as a simple anniversary post has snowballed into a full-blown public drama, exposing the fragile intersections of love, betrayal, power, and social media in Nigeria’s political and social circles.
In Benue tonight, one man’s joy has become another man’s trigger, and the internet, as always, is the courtroom where it’s all playing out.
