The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has facilitated fresh federal employment opportunities for five Benue youths, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 105 since he assumed office about two and a half years ago.
Presenting the appointment letters, Utsev urged the new recruits to demonstrate efficiency, discipline, and dedication, stressing that performance would be key to sustaining such opportunities for others. He reminded them that as federal civil servants, they must be prepared to serve in any part of the country where they are posted, noting that national service requires flexibility and commitment.
The minister reaffirmed his commitment to expanding job opportunities for Benue youths, alongside ongoing empowerment programmes targeting women, widows, and vulnerable groups. According to him, the goal is to promote self-reliance and reduce economic hardship. Utsev linked the employment drive to the broader agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which he said is focused on lifting millions of Nigerians out of poverty through targeted youth and women empowerment initiatives. He also called on citizens to continue supporting the administration, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to sustain development efforts across the country.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Donatus Manger expressed gratitude to the minister, describing the opportunity as life-changing. He pledged that the new employees would justify the confidence reposed in them. With the latest appointments, stakeholders say the initiative is gradually positioning more Benue youths within the federal workforce, amid rising concerns over unemployment nationwide.
