Social media platforms are buzzing with unconfirmed allegations that a youth leader loyal to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has been stabbed to death in Gboko, Benue State.
According to a viral Facebook post by one Asom D Jerry, the victim – described as one of the youth leaders of the SGF – was allegedly attacked by Terver Gbenda, the Special Assistant to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Youth matters. The post claims the incident occurred in Gboko, with the victim rushed to hospital but later pronounced dead by doctors.
The post, which has garnered significant attention and shares, comes amid lingering political tensions between the camps of Senator Akume and Governor Alia, tensions that resurfaced publicly during the recent Tiv Cultural Day celebration in Gboko where reports emerged of resistance to the governor’s entry into the venue.
As of now, there has been no official statement from the Benue State Government, the office of the SGF, the police, or any involved parties confirming or denying the allegation. No reputable news outlet has reported on the incident, and details remain scarce and unsubstantiated.
Residents and observers are urged to exercise caution and avoid spreading unverified information that could inflame existing political divides or lead to unrest. Authorities are expected to investigate and provide clarity if any such incident indeed occurred.
This development, if true, would mark a troubling escalation in the reported rift between the two APC heavyweights from Benue, but until confirmed by credible sources, it remains in the realm of rumor.
