Troops of the Joint Task Force under Operation Whirl Stroke have neutralised two suspected armed bandits during a snap ambush operation along the Naka–Ahume–Makurdi Road in Benue State.
The encounter was carried out by personnel from the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Battalion Nine, based on actionable intelligence regarding the movement of armed criminals in the area. During the operation, two suspects were neutralised, while a third sustained gunshot wounds and escaped.
An AK-47 rifle loaded with six rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition was recovered from the scene.
The Joint Task Force has intensified aggressive patrols along the route to further curtail the activities of criminal elements and enhance security for commuters and residents in the affected corridor.
Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, described the outcome as a clear demonstration of the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations. He reaffirmed the commitment of troops to sustaining pressure on criminal groups operating within the joint operations area and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Benue State.
The Naka–Ahume–Makurdi axis has in recent times witnessed incidents of armed robbery, kidnapping, and banditry, making continuous military presence and proactive operations critical to restoring normalcy along this important road network.
