His Royal Majesty, Prof. James Ayatse, the Paramount Ruler of the Tiv Nation, has given his full endorsement to Tiv Television after inspecting the station’s facilities on Tuesday, declaring the studio fully equipped and ready for operations.
During the visit to the television station located within his palace premises in Gboko, the Tor Tiv, accompanied by his wife, Her Royal Majesty Prof. Felicia Ayatse, was taken on a guided tour by Mrs. Dorcas Ukpe. Expressing deep satisfaction with what he saw, the monarch described the facilities as superior to those of some existing television stations and commended the professionalism and competence demonstrated by the Tiv Television staff.
Prof. Ayatse emphasized the critical importance of the station in preserving and promoting Tiv culture, language, and heritage, especially at a time when the Tiv language has been approved for academic study up to the highest degree level. He noted that with the Tiv being one of the most populous ethnic groups in Nigeria, there is an urgent need to safeguard their traditions and ensure they are properly projected and understood both locally and globally.
The monarch highlighted that the establishment of Tiv Television represents a deliberate and strategic effort to protect the rich cultural identity of the Tiv people. He expressed gratitude for the support already received from sons and daughters of Tiv land while appealing for sustained and increased backing to guarantee the station’s long-term success and viability.
This royal endorsement marks a significant milestone for Tiv Television as it prepares to commence broadcasting, offering a dedicated platform to showcase Tiv culture, inform the community, and foster unity among the Tiv people across Benue State and beyond. As the new year begins, this development signals a renewed commitment to cultural preservation and media representation for one of Nigeria’s major ethnic groups.
