Benue South Senator and Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has issued a strong warning that he will mobilise his constituents against the re-election of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia if the perceived continued marginalisation of the zone persists.

In a candid interview on The Conversation, a programme monitored on IDOMA Television, Senator Moro accused the governor of neglecting Benue South Senatorial District, particularly in the area of infrastructure development. He claimed that two years into office, Governor Alia has not initiated or completed any meaningful project in the zone.

“I think that Governor Alia has been corrupted absolutely by power and has decided to turn his back on the people who assisted him in the beginning to give his government a firm foundation,” Moro stated.

The senator pointed out what he described as a clear imbalance in the governor’s engagements, noting that while Alia has frequently visited Tiv-speaking areas and projects are reportedly ongoing there, he is yet to visit communities in Benue South devastated by suspected Fulani herdsmen attacks—where scores have been killed.

“Looking at two years in office and discovering that Governor Alia has not done anything for the people of the Benue South Senatorial District, I had to rise to the occasion to let him know that we are also part of Benue State,” Moro said.

“He has been doing things in some other places, at least as reported in newspapers, and nothing of that nature has happened in Benue South. Governor Alia cannot point to any specific project that he has started and completed in Benue South.”

Moro warned that the situation is unsustainable and threatened direct political consequences: “If it continues like this, I will mobilise my people against his re-election. That is straightforward. As a leader, one day you will think about handing over the baton of leadership.”

The remarks have ignited intense debate across Benue, with supporters of the governor dismissing them as politically motivated ahead of 2027, while others from Benue South argue that Moro’s position reflects genuine grievances over perceived neglect of the zone in appointments, project distribution, and security attention.

Governor Alia’s media team is yet to issue an official response to the senator’s allegations and threat. The development underscores rising tension within the political landscape of Benue as the 2027 governorship race begins to take shape.
