A Children’s Day celebration at IBB Square in Makurdi has sparked widespread concern and social media commentary after some parents allowed their young daughters and teenagers to attend the event in what many described as highly revealing and inappropriate outfits.
In a viral Facebook post, commentator Fanen Thomas Y. sarcastically applauded modern-day Gen-Z parents for prioritizing fashion over morality, decency, and self-respect. The post noted that little girls and teenagers turned up dressed as if attending a nightclub or music video shoot rather than a children’s event, leaving many adults in the crowd shocked and speechless.
The writer highlighted the irony of a society that later organizes seminars on moral decadence, loss of values, and youth disrespect while seemingly celebrating or ignoring such trends at children’s gatherings. He emphasized that children learn more from what they see than what they are told, warning that when indecency is normalized, society should not be surprised by the consequences.
The post concluded by acknowledging the importance of fashion and confidence but stressed that dignity and proper upbringing should remain timeless values.
The incident has ignited debates online about parenting, societal standards, and the nature of public events meant for children in Benue State.
