The Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government Council in Benue State, Hon. Maurice Orwough, has signed a contract for the construction of a 5-kilometre road aimed at significantly improving connectivity and economic activity within the local government area.
The contract was signed on January 14, 2026, marking what the chairman described as a major milestone in grassroots development. The project is expected to enhance movement of people and goods, provide better access to remote communities, and directly support farming as well as commercial activities that form the backbone of the local economy.
In his remarks following the signing, Hon. Orwough commended the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, for his unwavering support and deliberate focus on infrastructure development, even at the local government level. He highlighted the governor’s strong emphasis on projects that deliver tangible benefits to ordinary citizens, describing it as a clear demonstration of people-centered governance.
The chairman assured residents that the road construction will be carried out to high standards and within the stipulated timeline. He disclosed that a flag-off ceremony for the project would take place in the coming days, after which work is expected to commence promptly.
The initiative has been welcomed by community stakeholders in Guma, who see it as a vital step toward reducing transportation challenges, boosting agricultural productivity, and fostering overall socio-economic growth in the area.
