In a significant step toward improving the welfare of civil servants in Benue State, the Honourable Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Solid Minerals, Rev. Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, on Friday, 5th December 2025, visited the designated site for the construction of 500 modern housing units exclusively for civil servants in the state.
The commissioner, who was accompanied by top officials of the ministry, including the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mrs. Eunice Ihu, the Surveyor General, ESV Emmanuel Nóngo, and directors of the ministry, was received on ground by the project consultant, Mr. Murphy Torbua of Medgis Professional Development Concepts. The team conducted a thorough inspection of the site and assessed the progress of preparatory work.
Located at Abua, Makurdi-Gboko Road, directly opposite Pure Biotech Company, the housing estate is strategically positioned to provide accessible and decent accommodation for public servants who have long faced challenges in securing affordable housing in the state capital.
Speaking during the visit, the commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce, describing the housing project as a practical demonstration of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration’s resolve to prioritize the well-being of civil servants.
The project, when completed, is expected to ease the accommodation burden on workers, enhance their productivity, and contribute to the urban development of Makurdi.
The site visit underscores the administration’s hands-on approach to project implementation and its determination to deliver on promises made to the people of Benue State.
Civil servants across the state have welcomed the development, with many expressing optimism that the housing scheme will soon become a reality.
More details on the timeline, design, and allocation process are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
