Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has congratulated teachers across the state on the occasion of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, describing their contribution to the education and development of Benue society as invaluable.
In a message issued on Monday, October 5, 2026, the Governor noted that this year’s theme, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures,” serves as a reminder of the enduring place of teachers in building generations and shaping the future of communities and nations. He stated that his administration’s recognition and support for teachers are central to achieving meaningful progress in the education sector.
Governor Alia emphasised that standing with teachers must go beyond words to include practical measures that enable them to carry out their duties with confidence and dignity. He pointed to the recruitment of teachers into public schools and the renovation of schools across the state as part of efforts to create better conditions for teaching and learning. Improving school facilities alongside strengthening the teaching workforce, he said, reflects the government’s commitment to giving children in Benue access to a more conducive environment for learning.
The Governor assured Benue teachers that education will remain a major priority of his administration, especially as the quality of education today will have a direct bearing on the human capital and opportunities available to the next generation of Benue citizens. While expressing appreciation for their dedication and sacrifices, he urged the teachers to remain committed to their noble profession and continue to play their part in nurturing the minds and talents of young people across the state.
He wished all teachers in Benue a happy World Teachers’ Day.
