A security report circulating on social media has alleged that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Dr. George Akume, is involved in encouraging an individual identified as Asom Jerry to disseminate alleged falsehoods and defamatory statements targeting Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, as well as other prominent political figures and traditional rulers in the state.
The report, posted by Benue State Network News on December 28, 2025, further claims that Asom Jerry has been accommodated at Senator Akume’s Maitama residence in Abuja. The post, labeled as “Breaking News,” states that details will follow soon, but no additional evidence or specifics were provided in the initial announcement.
Asom Jerry is known as a social media activist and vocal critic of the Alia administration, with previous posts accusing the governor of favoritism, misplaced priorities, and other governance issues. He has been described in earlier reports as a fierce government critic, and his name surfaced in September 2025 amid concerns over his brief disappearance, which sparked speculation but was later resolved without confirmed links to arrests.
The allegations come amid longstanding political tensions between Akume and Alia, both key figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State. While the two leaders have publicly reconciled at various points and exchanged birthday felicitations as recently as Akume’s 72nd on December 27, underlying rivalries have periodically resurfaced, including clashes between supporters and mutual denials of orchestrating media attacks.
Neither the Office of the SGF nor Governor Alia’s team has issued an immediate response to these latest claims. Similar past accusations of proxy attacks and undermining have been firmly denied by Akume’s spokespersons, who have emphasized his focus on national duties and loyalty to the party.
