Dr. Stephen Terungwa Hwande, the Chief Medical Director of Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi, has strongly denied claims that he has endorsed any political aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a press statement issued through his Director of New Media, Hon. Comrade Tofi Simon Ternenge, on behalf of the Alia/Hwande Support Groups 2027, Hwande described such assertions as blackmail and deliberate distractions from his primary duties.
The statement, which has been circulating on social media, urges small political aspirants to cease misleading the public with false claims of his endorsement. Hwande categorically clarified that he has not supported any individual for elective positions in the upcoming polls and called on those spreading the misinformation to desist immediately.
Emphasizing his current priorities, the CMD reiterated his unwavering commitment to supporting the re-election of Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, praising the administration’s people-oriented policies and developmental achievements. He argued that continuity under Alia’s leadership is essential to further consolidate gains in governance and public service delivery across Benue State.
Hwande warned that the persistent misuse of his name for political leverage or personal benefit would no longer be tolerated, as it undermines party cohesion and diverts attention from collective efforts to strengthen the ruling party ahead of 2027. He advised aspirants to pursue their ambitions with integrity, transparency, and without resorting to unauthorized endorsements or misinformation.
Reassuring supporters and the public, the statement affirmed Hwande’s total loyalty to Governor Alia and the broader vision of good governance. As a key appointee of the Alia administration, the CMD’s focus remains on transforming healthcare at BSUTH while aligning with the state’s developmental agenda. This clarification comes amid heightened political activities in Benue as various groups position for the future elections.
