Tensions flared in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State on November 16, 2025, as youths fiercely defended Governor Hyacinth Alia against what they described as mockery from an Abuja-based politician during the burial ceremony of the late Kpamor Prof. JT Orkar.

The politician, identified as Hon. Arch. Asema Achado—a member representing Gwer West/Gwer East at the Federal House of Representatives—was swiftly rebuffed mid-speech. Refusing to let him continue, local youths and residents expressed their unyielding support for Governor Alia, forcing Achado to drop the microphone and exit the stage amid a charged atmosphere.

Eyewitnesses reported that Achado faced strong rejection from the crowd, who saw his remarks as an attempt to undermine the governor. One resident, speaking anonymously, insisted that Governor Alia must be supported by all and urged Achado to back efforts to end Fulani militia activities in the area. As Achado retreated, dodging youths who appeared ready to confront him, the crowd erupted into songs of solidarity, including the chant *”Ior ve de u zan Alia yo!”*—translated as *”People should desist from distracting Alia.”*

As Governor Alia continues to push his agenda for peace, security, and development, one message from Gwer East was clear: the people stand firmly behind him—and they will not tolerate distractions.
