Benue State is gearing up for a historic celebration as it prepares to launch the first-ever Benue Marine Carnival 2025, an event dedicated to showcasing the vast economic opportunities presented by the iconic River Benue. Organized by the Benue State Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, this groundbreaking festival aims to highlight the river’s role in transportation, tourism, fishing, and sustainable development.
The carnival is scheduled to run from 31st December 2025 to 1st January 2026, starting daily at 10:00 am, at the scenic Makurdi Golf Course Waterfront. Attendees are promised a vibrant lineup of activities, including cultural canoe and boat parades, canoe/boat display exhibitions, thrilling boat racing competitions, swimming contests, water rescue demonstrations, food and music festivals, wrestling matches, traditional sports, marine cadet parades, and even jet ski displays.
This initiative comes at a time when the state is actively promoting its blue economy agenda, following the establishment of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy earlier in 2025. The event serves as a platform to draw attention to the untapped potentials of River Benue, encouraging investments, partnerships, and community engagement in marine-related ventures.
