Benue Government to Begin ₦1.8 Million Annual Payments to Medical and Dental Students Under Bond Scheme

The Benue State Government, through the Ministry of Health, is set to issue appointment letters to successful beneficiaries of its Medical and Dental Students Bond Scheme on Monday, 5th October 2026.

The Bond Scheme, an initiative of the administration of Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, was introduced to support Benue indigene students studying Medicine and Dentistry in universities within Nigeria, particularly those from 400 level and above. Under the programme, successful beneficiaries will be integrated into the Benue State Government payroll and receive a monthly payment of ₦150,000 until graduation. This amounts to ₦1.8 million annually for each beneficiary, providing financial support for students pursuing some of the most expensive professional courses in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

As part of the terms and conditions of the scheme, beneficiaries are expected to return and serve the people of Benue State for two years after graduation while receiving their approved salaries and other applicable benefits. The arrangement is designed to provide financial assistance to students while also helping the state strengthen its future healthcare workforce.

Approved applicants are expected to present the following documents for documentation and collection of their appointment letters: JAMB Admission Letter, Recommendation Letter, Passport Photographs, Birth Certificate, Certificate of State of Origin, Bank Account Details, and relevant supporting academic documents.

Students who have recently gained admission into 400 level in the qualified courses of Medicine and Dentistry and meet the requirements are encouraged to apply. The application form is currently available for purchase directly from the Benue State Ministry of Health.

The Bond Scheme represents a structured approach by the Benue State Government to support indigenous students in professional courses while simultaneously developing a pipeline of qualified medical and dental professionals who can eventually contribute to the state’s healthcare system.
