ASUU-BSU Declares Indefinite Strike Over Unresolved Welfare Issues

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Benue State University Chapter (ASUU-BSU), has commenced an indefinite, total and comprehensive industrial action effective today, Monday, June 1, 2026.

In a formal notice addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of Benue State University, Makurdi, the union stated that the decision was reached after extensive deliberations at its Congress meeting held on June 1, 2026. The strike follows the persistent failure of the university management to satisfactorily address several long-standing welfare issues affecting its members, despite repeated engagements and assurances.

The union noted with concern the continued neglect of these issues and the adverse effects they have had on the welfare, morale, and productivity of its members. Consequently, all ASUU members in the university have been directed to withdraw their services with immediate effect until substantial progress is made towards resolving the outstanding matters in dispute.

The notice was jointly signed by Comrade Ali Sule Ako, Chairperson of ASUU-BSU, and Comrade Daniel N. Chile, Secretary of the union.

This development is expected to disrupt academic activities at Benue State University as the union insists on a comprehensive resolution of its demands before resuming duties.
