Officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State have strongly refuted social media reports claiming that the party’s state headquarters in Makurdi was vandalised by thugs.
In a statement shared on Sunday morning, APC stalwart Ahohoho Terungwa described the circulating news as false and misleading, insisting that the atmosphere at the party secretariat remains peaceful and calm.
“Disregard the news going round the social media that Benue State APC head office in Makurdi has been vandalised by thugs. The atmosphere here is very peaceful and calm,” the post read.
The clarification was accompanied by recent photographs of the party office premises, showing party members and officials standing calmly in front of the building, with APC flags, banners, and vehicles visible in an undisturbed setting. The images, timestamped February 16, 2026, depict a normal and orderly environment at the secretariat.
The rumour appears to have gained traction earlier in the day on various social media platforms before being countered by party insiders. No official complaint or police report regarding any vandalism at the APC state office has been lodged or confirmed by security agencies.
The swift rebuttal comes amid heightened political activities in the state ahead of future elections, where misinformation and rumours often circulate rapidly on social media. Party leaders urged members and the public to verify information from credible sources and avoid spreading unconfirmed claims that could create unnecessary tension.
Further details are expected from the Benue State APC leadership as they monitor and address any attempts to spread false narratives about the party’s affairs.
