A local congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Obi Local Government Area of Benue State was disrupted on Saturday, February 21, 2026, leading to heated exchanges and a brief physical confrontation among party members.

The congress, organised by David Ogewwu, was reportedly underway in the Benue community when a taskforce—allegedly mobilised by the Obi LGA Chairman, Hon. Silas Ode—arrived at the venue and halted proceedings.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as tense, with verbal arguments quickly escalating before security personnel intervened to restore order. No serious injuries were reported, but the exercise was abruptly terminated.

The taskforce reportedly justified its action as necessary to prevent the conduct of parallel congresses in the area, though full details of the justification and events leading to the disruption remain unclear.
