Governor Hyacinth Iormemem Alia has flagged off the construction of modern bus stops at strategic locations throughout Makurdi, the Benue State capital, as part of a broader urban renewal and infrastructure improvement programme.

The initiative, which follows the governor’s earlier approval for the comprehensive reconstruction of major township roads within Makurdi, aims to bring order to public transportation, eliminate indiscriminate parking of commercial vehicles, and significantly enhance traffic flow across the city.

Once completed, the standardised, well-designed bus stops are expected to improve commuter safety, reduce road congestion caused by haphazard parking, and contribute to a cleaner, more organised urban environment. The project is also anticipated to boost the aesthetic appeal of the state capital and support smoother movement for residents, traders, and visitors.

The development forms a key component of the Alia administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition Makurdi as a more commuter-friendly, organised, and aesthetically pleasing city. Authorities have described the bus stop construction as a practical step toward addressing long-standing challenges in urban mobility while complementing other road rehabilitation works currently underway.
