The Benue State Government has officially unveiled the EasyOwn Digital Asset Financing Platform, an innovative initiative designed to enable civil servants to acquire essential digital devices such as smartphones, laptops, and tablets through affordable, structured repayment plans.

The launch ceremony took place at the Office of the Head of Service in Makurdi and represents a key step in Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormemem Alia’s broader agenda to digitize the state’s civil service and promote inclusive access to modern technology.

In his address, the Head of Service, Mr. Agbogbo Odeh, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Alia for creating an enabling environment for digital reform. He highlighted the governor’s early directive to establish the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, noting that visible progress has already been achieved in less than three years.

“His Excellency gave us a clear picture of what a digitally transformed civil service should look like,” Mr. Odeh said, adding that the EasyOwn platform complements the ongoing digital skills training currently being provided to over 43,000 civil servants across the state.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) and Novus Microfinance Bank. Engr. Michael Idu, Head of Cooperative Services at BDIC, who represented the GMD/CEO of BDIC, Hon. Gbande Hembaoor Terwase, AFCNPN, described the platform as a landmark development in the state’s digital journey. He explained that beneficiaries will access devices supplied by BDIC under a loan arrangement facilitated by Novus Microfinance Bank, eliminating the need for full upfront payment.

Managing Director of Novus Microfinance Bank, Mrs. Patricia Goja, emphasized the bank’s commitment to practical financial solutions beyond traditional lending. “Through EasyOwn, civil servants can now own essential devices and pay conveniently over time. Access to digital tools enhances efficiency, supports professional growth, and improves overall quality of life. This initiative is about empowerment and bridging the digital gap,” she stated.

In a vote of thanks, the representative of the Honourable Commissioner for ICT and Digital Economy, Dr. Elvis Ogenyiyi—Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Welfare—described the partnership between BDIC and Novus MFB as a significant boost to the digital transformation of the Benue civil service. He commended the state government, BDIC, and Novus for driving a project that will strengthen service delivery and foster professional development among public servants.
