Residents of Adikpo community in Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State, have raised fresh concerns over the alleged substandard execution of a rural road project at the Rice Mill area, which serves as a key link to the Tor Tiv’s village. The complaints, detailed in a report published by BENUE info-pedia on February 5, 2026, center on the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), a federally supported initiative aimed at improving rural infrastructure and agricultural connectivity.

According to community members who spoke to the platform, the road—part of the 2024/2025 RAAMP project cycle—has been poorly constructed or rehabilitated, following a familiar pattern of short-lived interventions that fail to withstand local conditions. Residents described previous efforts to repair or upgrade the same route as equally disappointing, with improvements deteriorating rapidly and leaving the road in a state of disrepair once again.

One frustrated resident captured the sentiment widely shared in the community: “This road seems cursed. Anytime work is carried out here, it does not last.” They further noted that the contract signpost remains prominently displayed in Adikpo, serving as a visible reminder of unfulfilled promises.

The road holds significant economic importance for the area, facilitating movement for farmers transporting produce to the rice mill and enabling traders and other community members to access surrounding villages and markets. Its poor condition, residents argue, continues to hamper local livelihoods and agricultural productivity in an already agrarian region.

The recurring nature of the problem has led locals to label it a persistent issue of substandard workmanship and inadequate quality control. Community voices are now calling on the Benue State Government, RAAMP officials, and relevant monitoring agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the project, hold contractors accountable, and enforce adherence to specified engineering and durability standards.

As of the time of the report, efforts by BENUE info-pedia to obtain a response from RAAMP officials proved unsuccessful, leaving the allegations unaddressed by project authorities for now.

The situation in Adikpo highlights ongoing challenges in the delivery and sustainability of rural infrastructure projects in parts of Benue State, despite the broader objectives of RAAMP to provide lasting access roads that support agricultural marketing and reduce rural isolation. Residents remain hopeful that renewed scrutiny and stronger oversight will lead to a more durable solution for this vital community route.
