The Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC) has successfully recovered Yaman Park, a popular public space in Makurdi, from unauthorized occupiers, acting on behalf of the Benue State Government.

The reclamation exercise aligns with BIPC’s statutory responsibilities under Edict No. 10 of 1995, which transferred all assets of the defunct Benue Housing Agency to the company. This legal framework vests BIPC with full authority to manage, protect, and recover state-owned landed properties from encroachers and trespassers.

In a statement following the operation, the Group Managing Director (GMD) of BIPC explained that the recovery was carried out in strict compliance with the company’s mandate to reclaim government properties unlawfully occupied and ensure their optimal use for the benefit of the state. He emphasized that the action demonstrates the administration’s firm commitment to restoring order in land administration and safeguarding public assets from illegal takeover.

The GMD further noted that BIPC will continue to identify, secure, and recover all government-owned properties across Benue State in accordance with the law. He issued a stern warning to individuals and groups currently occupying government land without proper authorization to vacate such properties immediately, stressing that the company will not hesitate to take lawful steps to reclaim them.

“The recovery of Yaman Park is expected to pave the way for its proper redevelopment and utilization in line with the vision of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s investment and urban renewal plans,” the GMD stated.

Yaman Park, long valued by residents as a recreational and community space, had reportedly been subject to encroachment over time, prompting calls for intervention to restore it to public use. The successful recovery is seen as a significant step toward protecting public infrastructure and advancing the state government’s broader agenda of urban renewal, investment promotion, and accountable land management.
