On December 25, 2025, the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga, MNIQS, extended warm Christmas greetings to the people of Benue State, framing the Yuletide season as a profound call for sacrifice, shared responsibility, renewed faith in God, kindness, love, and collective action.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Zape Michael Upaa, Emberga described Christmas as far more than festivities and gift-giving, portraying it as a reflection of the humility and self-giving nature of Jesus Christ, whose birth brought hope and redemption to humanity. He urged Christians and all residents to deeply contemplate these virtues and allow them to shape everyday interactions.
The Speaker praised the perseverance and resilience demonstrated by Benue citizens amid ongoing economic pressures, security challenges, and various social difficulties. He reaffirmed the commitment of the 10th Assembly under his leadership to stand firmly with the people through legislation that promotes peace, protects lives and property, enhances citizen welfare, stimulates job creation, and supports farmers, small-scale businesses, and entrepreneurship.
Emberga reiterated the Assembly’s resolve to collaborate harmoniously with the executive arm for impactful governance, emphasizing that genuine progress requires unified effort from all branches of government, institutions, and citizens driven by shared vision and sincerity.
He called on Christians to let the Christmas message heal old wounds, build bridges, and strengthen bonds of brotherhood across the state’s diverse ethnic groups, highlighting forgiveness, tolerance, and dialogue as indispensable for lasting peace and social cohesion.
Additionally, the Speaker encouraged modest and responsible celebrations, adherence to traffic and safety rules, and expressions of love toward the needy, internally displaced persons, and those lacking means to celebrate. He stated that “the true spirit of Christmas is found in lifting others, not in extravagance.”
Emberga prayed for the birth of Christ to bring renewed hope to families, farmers, traders, civil servants, traditional institutions, youths, and every segment of society, while wishing that the New Year ushers in fresh opportunities, development, and stability for Benue State. He concluded by wishing all residents a Merry Christmas filled with joy and a prosperous New Year.
