A dark cloud descended on the Rev. Father Moses Orshio Adasu University (formerly Benue State University) this afternoon when a female student suddenly slumped in the middle of writing her examination and died before medical help could reach her.

The heartbreaking incident occurred around 3:55 pm on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, inside one of the large examination halls on the Makurdi campus. Eyewitnesses say the young woman was halfway through her paper when she suddenly went limp, her head dropping onto the desk, sending scripts flying and triggering instant panic among hundreds of candidates and invigilators.

Despite frantic efforts by fellow students and staff to revive her, including rushing her to the university clinic, she was pronounced dead on arrival. The exact cause of death has not been officially confirmed, but many are pointing to the crushing pressure that accompanies the examination season.

The news spread like wildfire across the campus and beyond, turning a day of academic hustle into one of collective mourning. Students gathered in clusters, some weeping openly, others staring in stunned silence as the reality sank in: a vibrant life had been cut short in the very place meant to secure her future.

This tragedy has once again thrown a harsh spotlight on the physical and mental toll that examinations exact on students. Across social media, voices are rising: eat well, rest adequately, speak up when the pressure becomes too much. Too often, these pleas come only after a life is lost.

As night falls over the campus tonight, a wave of grief hangs heavy in the air. The university community has lost one of its own far too soon, and her seat in that examination hall will remain painfully empty.

May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
And may this sad loss force every one of us, students, parents, lecturers, and administrators, to do better.
