Tragic Killing of Pastor Shocks Ekati Community After Ransom Payment and Two Lives Claimed in Naka

In a disturbing turn of events, the Ekati community and the broader Patigi Emirate are reeling from the brutal murder of Rev. Jarnes Audu Issa, a pastor with the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA). The cleric was abducted on August 28, 2025, and despite the payment of a N5 million ransom by his family and the community, he was killed in captivity, sparking outrage and tension in the region.

According to reports from ThisDayLive, bandits initially demanded a staggering N100 million for the pastor’s release, threatening his life if the sum was not met. After negotiations, the family and community managed to raise N5 million, which was delivered to the abductors in hopes of securing his freedom. However, the criminals escalated their demands, requesting an additional N45 million. Before further talks could proceed, it was confirmed that the pastor had been killed.

The tragic development has been described as a disturbing escalation in the operations of criminal gangs, highlighting the ruthless tactics increasingly deployed by bandits across Kwara North. A community leader, speaking anonymously to journalists in Ilorin, expressed the growing fear and despair among residents, who continue to grapple with recurring kidnappings, extortion, and killings.

In a related incident, suspected bandits struck again in Naka, Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State, claiming two lives. Local sources reported that the attack occurred last Saturday when the victims were returning from their farm. One survivor, Terkimbi Gyaluwa, 25, recounted the harrowing experience to the police, detailing how they were attacked by armed herders while working.

Authorities have intensified joint patrol and tactical operations in the affected areas to prevent further attacks and apprehend the perpetrators. In Naka, the Divisional Police Officer mobilized teams to the scene, where two corpses were recovered and deposited at the General Hospital mortuary. Efforts to confirm the incidents with the Benue State Police Command and DSP Udeme Edet have been unsuccessful as of this report.
