Hon. Fidelis Msughter Unongo Government Responds to Turan Attack with Condolences and Support

In the wake of a devastating attack on the Turan community, the Benue State government has taken swift action to address the crisis and support the affected families. Hon. Fidelis Msughter Unongo, Special Adviser to the Governor, strongly condemned the inhumane act and assured the people of Turan that justice will be served. “As their son, I will leave no stone unturned until they get justice,” he declared during a visit to the area.

The attack, which resulted in the burning of the Mue Ter palace and injuries to several individuals, prompted an immediate response from the government. Hon. Unongo directed the payment of medical bills for those receiving treatment at the hospital and ordered the renovation of the damaged palace. He also instructed the KWUPO President, Aloko Nachi Simon, to file a complaint with the military and copy the Governor of Benue State.

The Director-General of Homeland Security, RTD Gbawuan, promised accountability for the erring officers involved, stating, “We are sad to hear of the news, and we pray for the repose of the fallen brothers.” He assured the youths and traditional rulers that their demands are noted and will be relayed to the Governor.

Tensionsrose when Turan youths denied Hon. Anyor Matu, a member representing Kwande East, the opportunity to speak, accusing him of abandoning them and attempting to score political points. Meanwhile, a high-powered delegation, comprising government officials and security experts, visited Kwande Local Government Area on Thursday to condole with the people over the recent military attack on innocent citizens and assess the damages caused. The delegation was warmly received by Hon. Vitalis Neji, Chairman of Kwande Local Government, who appreciated the Governor’s swift response but criticized the military’s actions.

The President of the Kwande Youth Development Association, Comr. Aloko Nachi Simon, expressed gratitude for the Governor’s support, though he called for the withdrawal of the military from the area, labeling it a threat to their existence. He urged the deployment of more police instead. Chief Ambrose Iortyer Pine, the Tor Kwande 1st, also praised the Governor and the ALGON Chairman for creating an enabling environment for the community.

As the region grapples with the aftermath, the government’s commitment to justice and support offers a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy.
