Escalating Insecurity Plagues Tombo Council Ward and Surrounding Routes

Tombo Council Ward, headquartered in Ayilamo, is grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis as relentless attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen have forced mass displacement across the region. The violence has driven residents from over 10 million hectares of farmland and homesteads, leaving once-thriving communities desolate. This alarming situation was reported at 6:16 AM today, highlighting the urgent need for intervention.

Most residents have fled, with some seeking refuge in Ayilamo, while others are sheltered by friends and relatives in nearby towns. Travel in and out of Ayilamo has become perilous due to widespread insecurity. The Ayilamo–Anyiin route via Akwana is deemed unsafe, with reports suggesting that sections of the Jukun community allegedly provide cover for the attackers. Similarly, the Ayilamo–Uzer axis has been completely deserted following waves of attacks, while the Ayilamo–Iwyendyer road sees travelers frequently ambushed, robbed, or killed by armed herdsmen.

Security concerns persist despite the deployment of Army and Mobile Police units. Residents insist that the attacks continue unchecked, with many suspecting either complicity or a lack of decisive action by the deployed forces, as killings and raids occur on a near-daily basis.
