Comrade Michael Vembe, Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) Benue State Council, has issued a strong rebuttal against a group that calls itself “Concerned Pensioners,” which staged a protest in Makurdi claiming to regret the purchase of a nomination form for Governor Hyacinth Alia.
In a statement, Comrade Vembe categorically denied that the group was part of any decision to purchase the nomination form on behalf of the Governor. He noted that the perceived sponsored group had earlier rejected the move and publicly expressed their objection in both print and electronic media.
“How can they be regretting what they did not do?” Vembe queried.
The NUP Chairman described the group as illegal and called on security agencies to deal with them accordingly. He urged genuine pensioners in the state to disregard the antics of the group and remain calm, assuring them that the Union is actively negotiating with the State Government on the payment of inherited arrears, a process the government has already initiated.
Comrade Vembe pledged the Union’s sustained, unalloyed loyalty and full support for the re-election bid of Governor Hyacinth Alia in the 2027 general elections.
