A young woman from Benue State has tragically lost her life in Libya, adding to the growing list of Nigerians who have perished while attempting irregular migration through North Africa.
According to a post by Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya, the deceased has been identified as Theresa Ihwakaa from Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State. She reportedly died in Libya yesterday. The announcement, accompanied by photographs of the deceased, urges the public to share the information widely so that her family and loved ones can be properly notified and arrangements made.
The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear from the available information, but such incidents are sadly common among young Nigerians, particularly from regions like Benue, who embark on dangerous journeys through the Sahara Desert and across the Mediterranean in search of better opportunities in Europe. Many fall victim to exploitation, harsh conditions, or violence during these perilous trips.
This latest tragedy serves as another reminder of the risks associated with irregular migration and the urgent need for safer legal pathways, as well as stronger support systems for vulnerable youths considering such journeys.
The family of Theresa Ihwakaa and the people of Konshisha LGA are in the hearts and prayers of many at this difficult time. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to reach out through appropriate channels.
