Dr. Raymond Asemakaha Jr., Group Managing Director of Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC), has charged the newly matriculating class of Moses Orshio Adasu University (MOAU) to look beyond their certificates if they hope to thrive in what he calls the “Great Shift”, a world being rapidly reshaped by Artificial Intelligence.

In a Facebook post addressed to the Class of 2026, Asemakaha congratulated the students on reaching the milestone but quickly turned their attention to the hard truth awaiting them after graduation.

“The world you are graduating into is vastly different from the one your predecessors encountered even five years ago,” he wrote.

According to him, while a degree proves discipline and provides critical thinking skills, it is “no longer the sole ticket to a seat at the global table.”

He urged students to adopt a dual-track approach: excelling in the classroom while mastering what he calls “New World” skills including digital fluency, AI literacy, adaptive problem-solving, and soft skills like empathy and leadership.

“AI is not here to replace you, but it will replace the professional who doesn’t know how to use it,” he warned.

Quoting futurist Alvin Toffler, Asemakaha reminded the freshmen that the illiterate of the 21st century won’t be those who can’t read or write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.

He ended with a promise from BIPC: “We are constantly looking for innovators, those who have the degree in their hands and the future in their heads.”

His advice to the new students? Every day, ask yourself: “What did I learn today that makes me valuable to the world, not just the classroom?”

The message has since sparked conversations online, with many agreeing that Nigerian graduates must evolve beyond paper qualifications to stay relevant.
