Students from various tertiary institutions across Benue State have gathered in Makurdi for the ongoing Students Turning Point Programme, an initiative designed to inspire innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurship among young people.
The event, currently taking place at the College of Health Sciences Auditorium of Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, has brought together students, development advocates, policy stakeholders, and youth leaders under the theme “Fueling Benue’s Future.”
Participants described the gathering as a valuable platform where young minds can exchange ideas, challenge conventional thinking, and develop practical solutions to the socio-economic challenges facing the state. Organisers said the programme aims to stimulate creative thinking and equip students with the mindset required to drive economic growth and innovation in Benue.
According to attendees, the atmosphere reflects a growing desire among youths to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development. “We are seeing students actively engaging, sharing ideas, and challenging themselves to think beyond the classroom. It shows that the next generation of builders for Benue is ready,” one participant remarked.
Others highlighted the rare opportunity the programme provides for students from different institutions to interact, network, and explore pathways for entrepreneurship and leadership. The initiative is powered by the Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPCL) in collaboration with the Benue State Government, as part of broader efforts to promote youth empowerment and human capital development.
Officials noted that the programme aligns with Governor Hyacinth Alia’s development vision, which prioritises investment in education, innovation, enterprise, and sustainable growth drivers. Organisers encouraged residents and students in Makurdi and surrounding areas to participate in the ongoing conversations, describing the initiative as a step toward building a stronger future for Benue.
