Armed Robbers Kill Young POS Operator, Luther Raphael in Gboko, Benue State

A young point-of-sale (POS) operator, Luther Raphael Kunde, was shot dead by armed robbers at his workplace in Gboko, Benue State, yesterday, leaving residents in shock and fear.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants struck swiftly while Kunde was attending to customers, seizing cash before fleeing the scene. An eyewitness described the attack as happening “so fast” that no one could have anticipated such violence in the area.

The incident has heightened concerns about rising insecurity in Gboko, with locals now calling on security agencies to strengthen protection for businesses, small-scale operators, and everyday livelihoods in the town.

The Benue State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement, but investigations into the killing are underway. Local associations, including the AMMMBAN Gboko chapter, have expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, praying for comfort and strength during this difficult time.

The tragic death of Luther Raphael Kunde has once again drawn attention to the vulnerability of informal sector workers and small business owners amid growing criminal activities in parts of the state. Residents are urging authorities to act swiftly to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore a sense of safety in the community.
