Governor Alia Strongly Condemns Brutal Killings in Kwande Communities, 12 Dead

Benue State Governor, His Excellency Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has condemned in the strongest terms the barbaric killings that occurred in Tyungugu Jam and Mbaav communities in Yaav and Mbadura Council Wards of Kwande Local Government Area.

The attack left 12 innocent people dead and several others seriously injured, plunging the affected communities into deep mourning and fear.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the governor described the incident as senseless and inhumane, expressing profound sorrow over the loss of lives and extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the traditional leadership, and the entire people of Kwande.

Governor Alia assured residents that security agencies are already on the ground and working tirelessly to restore calm, apprehend the perpetrators, and prevent further attacks. He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, noting that no effort will be spared to bring those responsible to justice.

The governor also called on community leaders, religious figures, and residents to remain vigilant, provide credible information to security operatives, and continue supporting ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts.

Meanwhile, the post sparked online controversy after a misleading image—circulating since 2024 and unrelated to the Kwande incident—was shared on social media with claims linking it to the recent killings. The image prompted swift clarification from Alia TV Network, which emphasized viewers’ discretion and confirmed the photo was old and not connected to the current event in Kwande.

The tragic killings have once again highlighted the persistent security challenges in parts of the state, despite notable improvements recorded in recent times. Governor Alia urged all stakeholders to unite against criminal elements and work collectively toward lasting peace in Benue.
