You Have Equal Opportunities in PDP, Unongo Assures New Decampees

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial Candidate for Benue North-East Zone A, Thomas Tyolumun Unongo, has assured new members joining the party of equal opportunities as he led other party leaders to receive former ALGON Chairman, Hon. Augustine Avaan, former aide to Governor Gabriel Suswam, Hon. Manasseh Aam, and Hon. Jeff Atondo into the PDP.

The decamping ceremony, held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the PDP Secretariat, Takum Junction, Katsina-Ala, attracted thousands of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties who joined the PDP.

Speaking at the mega decamping ceremony, Unongo said the PDP remained strong in Sankera, stressing that the party had continued to uphold its position as a people’s party in the area. He urged the people to remain committed to the PDP, describing the party as capable of delivering dividends of democracy to the people. The Senatorial Candidate assured Hon. Avaan and other new members that they would have equal opportunities to contribute to the growth and development of the party.

In his remarks, the PDP State Deputy Chairman, Hon. Azua Ashongo, said the party had recorded significant progress, noting that the PDP was better positioned ahead of the 2027 general elections. The PDP Zonal Chairman, Hon. Abraham Waroh, expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the 2027 elections, stating that the PDP had strengthened its presence across the local government areas in Sankera and Zone A.

Also speaking, the PDP House of Representatives Candidate for Logo/Katsina-Ala/Ukum Federal Constituency, Dr. Terris Damsa, said the party was gaining strength across the state, attributing the development to what he described as the people-centred leadership of Chief Samuel Ortom.

The leader of the decampees, Hon. Augustine Avaan, expressed satisfaction with his decision to join the PDP and pledged to work for the success of the party in the forthcoming elections. Other speakers at the ceremony, including Hon. Juliet Yamsha, the PDP State Auditor, Mrs. Vera Akua, the Assembly Candidate for Loko, and Ambassador Chive Kaave, welcomed the new members and urged them to work together with other party members.

Earlier in Katsina-Ala, Unongo commissioned campaign offices donated to him by various support groups to facilitate and support his campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
