Tragic Death of SUBEB Staff Orseer Nyagu After Kidnapping in Naka, Benue State

A young staff member of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr. Orseer Nyagu, has been killed by kidnappers after being abducted along the Agagbe-Naka road in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to details shared by family members and colleagues, Orseer Nyagu, aged 27, was kidnapped alongside two other people while travelling from Agagbe to Naka. The abductors, suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, contacted the family after two days in captivity and demanded a ransom of N15 million.

Following negotiations, the ransom was reduced to N500,000, which the family eventually paid. Tragically, before the ransom could be transferred, Orseer attempted to escape on his own. He was killed during the process yesterday, while the other two victims who remained patient were released today and have safely returned home.

The heartbreaking incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with colleagues and friends mourning the loss of the promising young man who had just been recruited into the SUBEB workforce. Many have expressed deep fear over the rising wave of kidnappings and insecurity along roads in the area.

In a moving tribute, Ukan Kurugh described Orseer as the son of his primary school teacher and a colleague in the new SUBEB job. He lamented the increasing insecurity in the state, warning that without urgent unity and action, more innocent lives will continue to be lost.

The family and friends have prayed for the repose of Orseer Nyagu’s soul and strength for his loved ones to bear the painful loss.

This incident has once again highlighted the persistent security challenges in parts of Benue State, particularly along rural roads, where commuters remain vulnerable to abduction and violence.
