Tragedy in Makurdi as Gunmen Kill One Near City Bay Park

Residents of Makurdi, the Benue State capital, were thrown into panic on Monday after reports of a shooting incident at the back of City Bay Park, with unconfirmed claims of a fire breaking out in the area.

 

A Facebook post by local user Min Baba Bameyi, shared just 55 minutes earlier, alerted the public: “Back of citybay is on fire right now.. avoid that road for now. 1 person is down.. God have mercy ”

The post quickly drew reactions from concerned residents. One commenter, Nempin Lar, sought clarification, asking, “What do you mean by the back of the city? if you want to help to be precise please.”

In response, another user, Christian Sax, stated that “Someone was killed by an unknown gun men.” Other comments expressed shock and prayers, with phrases like “God have mercy” and “It is well,” while one resident simply wrote “NO STATE, NO TOWN,” reflecting the growing sense of insecurity in the area.

City Bay Park, a popular event and recreational facility located along Iyorchia Ayu Road in Wurukum, Makurdi, is known for its large event center and leisure offerings. The “back of Citybay” likely refers to residential or less developed areas immediately behind the park.
