Residents of Akombo community in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State are living in fear after a classroom block at L.G.E.A Primary School was allegedly torched by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Tuesday evening, April 8, 2026.
The attack, which occurred near Anyiin, also destroyed valuable agricultural produce stored near the school, including large quantities of seed yams meant for the new planting season. Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunshots during the incident, which triggered widespread panic and forced many residents to flee their homes for safety.
According to local accounts, the fire completely gutted parts of the school infrastructure, leaving the affected classroom block severely damaged. No casualties were reported, but the destruction has dealt a heavy blow to both education and agriculture in the area Recurring Security Concerns Deepen Fears.
The incident comes against the backdrop of persistent security challenges in the Logo LGA and surrounding communities. Farmers in the region have repeatedly expressed fears over accessing their farmlands due to suspected attacks and threats from herdsmen in nearby areas.
Speaking on the attack, Comr. Hulega Keghter Kenneth, Media Coordinator of the AYBG (a local advocacy group), expressed relief that no lives were lost but highlighted the growing uncertainty among residents.
“We thank God that no life was lost, but there is growing uncertainty about returning to our farms in the affected areas,” he said.
Many locals are now calling for an urgent and stronger security presence to restore confidence and allow normal activities, particularly farming and schooling, to resume without fear.
