Parents across Benue State have been called upon to return their children to public primary schools in large numbers, with the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Grace Adagba, declaring that the era of doubting the quality of public education in government-owned schools is over.
Speaking on Wednesday during the inauguration of the newly constituted executive committee and the commissioning of a new secretariat for the All Progressives Congress (APC) “E” Division in Fiidi Council Ward, Makurdi Local Government Area, Dr. Adagba hailed Governor Hyacinth Alia for what she described as a revolutionary turnaround in the state’s basic education sector.
She specifically commended the governor for the recent recruitment and deployment of over 9,000 qualified primary school teachers – a move she said has dramatically improved teacher-pupil ratio and restored confidence in public schools.
“We urge parents to enrol their children in public schools to benefit from the renewed quality of teaching and learning,” Dr. Adagba said, stressing that ongoing infrastructural upgrades, payment of salary arrears, and sweeping reforms under Governor Alia’s administration have repositioned public education as a credible alternative to private institutions.
The event, held in Yiina Community, also served as a political rally ahead of the 2027 elections. Dr. Adagba assured the crowd that SUBEB will continue to align fully with the governor’s vision, while calling for sustained leadership to consolidate the gains already recorded.
In a strong show of solidarity, the Chief Medical Director of Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) and 2027 North-West senatorial hopeful, Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, told the gathering that Governor Alia remains on course to complete a historic eight-year tenure. He challenged anyone planning to contest against the governor in 2027 to first present verifiable achievements, insisting that the administration’s visible strides in roads, health, education, and security are unmatched.
Several appointees of the governor, including Hon. Samuel Aluka (Senior Special Assistant on Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management), Hon. Francis Ushabemba Ngutswen (SSA on Special Groups Mobilisation), Hon. Francis Shom (SSA on Rural Marketing and Coordination), and Hon. Timothy Terfa (APC Fiidi Ward Vice Chairman), all used the occasion to mobilise residents for continuous voter registration and grassroots support for Governor Alia’s second-term bid.
The commissioning of the new APC “E” Division secretariat was described by party faithful as a strategic step to strengthen mobilisation ahead of 2027, with the convener of the APC “E” Division Support Group for Alia/2027, Engr. Ahii Sabastine Ipevnor, pledging unwavering loyalty beyond the next election.
With teachers now in classrooms, school fences rising, and learning materials being distributed across the state, the message from Fiidi Ward was clear: Governor Alia’s education revolution is no longer a promise – it is a reality parents can trust.
