Pastor Francis Ojo Dies in Fatal Accident While Fleeing Suspected Bandits After Crusade in Makurdi

A pastor with Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Pastor Abraham Francis Aduah Ojo, has tragically lost his life in a road accident while attempting to escape from suspected bandits on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

The incident occurred as the clergyman was returning from a crusade held in Makurdi, the Benue State capital. According to family sources, Pastor Ojo unexpectedly drove into an ongoing bandit operation along the road. In a desperate bid to flee the armed group, he lost control of his vehicle, resulting in a crash that claimed his life instantly.

The sad development was confirmed by his nephew, Abuja Richard Enenmona, in a heartfelt Facebook post on Friday. “My Uncle was coming from Makurdi yesterday after a crusade when he ran into bandits. He tried to escape but had an accident and died immediately,” he wrote.

Enenmona further described the deceased as a faithful servant of God who had diligently served in Dunamis Church until his passing. He noted that the news had plunged the entire family and wider community into deep sorrow. “Since this morning, my family and entire community have been thrown into heavy tears. Rest well, Uncle Pastor Abraham Francis Aduah Ojo,” he concluded.

Pastor Ojo’s death has sent shockwaves through the Dunamis family and the Christian community in Benue State, where he was known for his dedication to ministry and outreach programmes. The incident once again highlights the persistent threat of banditry and armed attacks on major roads in parts of the North-Central region, even in the aftermath of large public gatherings.

No official statement has been issued by the Benue State Police Command regarding the circumstances of the crash or any ongoing investigation into the suspected bandit presence on the road at the time. The tragic loss serves as a somber reminder of the risks faced by travellers on highways in insecurity-prone areas, particularly at night or during periods of heightened criminal activity.
