The National Association of Benue State Students (NUBESS), under the leadership of Comrade Akpereshi Peter, has officially endorsed Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande as its preferred candidate to contest and win the Benue North Senatorial Zone seat in the 2027 general elections.
In a strongly worded statement, the student body described Dr. Hwande as a frontline contender with an impeccable track record in both private and public service, particularly in the health sector. The group expressed confidence that, if elected, the medical doctor and current Chief Executive of Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) would bring his wealth of experience to bear at the national level and amplify the voice of the people of the zone.
The students highlighted Dr. Hwande’s transformative leadership at BSUTH, noting that in a short time he has turned the once struggling institution “into a nation of its own,” earning widespread praise across the state.
As a mark of their total commitment, NUBESS announced that it is deploying its official bus to serve as part of Dr. Hwande’s campaign fleet and that members across tertiary institutions will actively join his campaign train.
Responding to the endorsement, Dr. Hwande expressed profound gratitude to the students, describing their action as a bold and courageous step. He charged them to remain steadfast defenders and ambassadors of the Governor Hyacinth Alia transformation agenda while countering what he called “negative propaganda being spread by enemies of the state who do not mean well for Benue.”
The endorsement by NUBESS is seen as a major boost to Dr. Hwande’s growing political profile, positioning him as an early favorite among the youth and student population in the senatorial zone ahead of the 2027 polls.
With this development, the race for the Benue North Senatorial seat is gradually taking shape, even as other interest groups and political blocs are expected to make their positions known in the coming months.
