The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has successfully scaled the screening process of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has been officially certified to contest the primaries for nomination as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The screening exercise took place earlier today, Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Plateau State Governor’s Lodge, which served as the venue for incumbent governors seeking the party’s ticket. The National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Goshwe, chaired the screening committee constituted to assess aspirants vying to fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections.
The Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the party primaries were procured for Governor Alia by the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Benue Chapter and the Benue State Motorcycle Association (BEMOA). Leadership of the two unions highlighted the massive turnaround in the fortunes of the state and the human face of Governor Alia’s administration as key reasons for their desire to see him return to Government House to consolidate the gains recorded so far.
The certification of Governor Alia is widely regarded by political observers and stakeholders as a significant milestone in consolidating his political standing within the APC, especially with ongoing consultations and strategic alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Alia’s administration has consistently emphasized infrastructural renewal, security enhancement, civil service reforms, and social welfare interventions across Benue State. He emerged from the screening process successfully after satisfying the constitutional and party requirements stipulated by the APC. The certification also signals the commencement of heightened political activities within the party as preparations gradually gather momentum toward the 2027 electoral cycle.
Governor Hyacinth Alia was elected governor of Benue State in 2023 under the APC platform and has since maintained a visible presence in the state’s political and governance landscape.
