Fresh Security Fears Grip Guma as Armed Fulani Herders Spotted in Tse Ankorakpe

Residents of Tse Ankorakpe village and surrounding communities in Nyiev Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State, have been thrown into panic following reports that armed Fulani herders were sighted in the area on Sunday.

According to a Facebook alert posted by Tivta Samuel Aondohemba, timber contractors working in the area reportedly encountered a group of armed men moving suspiciously without any cattle. The herders were said to be advancing quietly and strategically before they were eventually sighted from a distance.

The development has heightened fears among the people of Nyiev and Isherev, who describe the continuous presence of armed Fulani militia in parts of Isherev land as a major security threat. Locals lamented the repeated attacks, killings, and displacement of innocent villagers across Guma and neighbouring communities, claiming that armed herders continue to terrorise residents with little resistance.

Following the latest incident, natives and travellers in the Tse Ankorakpe axis have been strongly advised to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant while going about their daily activities.

The people of Isherev are calling on Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, to urgently deploy adequate security personnel to the area to protect innocent residents and prevent another tragedy, referencing past incidents like the Yelewata massacre.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation from security agencies regarding the reported sighting. The situation remains tense as communities in the region continue to live in fear amid recurring farmer-herder conflicts that have plagued Benue State for years.
