Tombo Council Ward, headquartered in Ayilamo, is grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis as relentless attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen have forced mass displacement across the region. The violence has driven residents from over 10 million hectares of farmland and homesteads, leaving once-thriving communities desolate. This alarming situation was reported at 6:16 AM today, highlighting the urgent need for intervention.
Most residents have fled, with some seeking refuge in Ayilamo, while others are sheltered by friends and relatives in nearby towns. Travel in and out of Ayilamo has become perilous due to widespread insecurity. The Ayilamo–Anyiin route via Akwana is deemed unsafe, with reports suggesting that sections of the Jukun community allegedly provide cover for the attackers. Similarly, the Ayilamo–Uzer axis has been completely deserted following waves of attacks, while the Ayilamo–Iwyendyer road sees travelers frequently ambushed, robbed, or killed by armed herdsmen.
Security concerns persist despite the deployment of Army and Mobile Police units. Residents insist that the attacks continue unchecked, with many suspecting either complicity or a lack of decisive action by the deployed forces, as killings and raids occur on a near-daily basis.
The current situation remains tense, with displaced communities, abandoned farmlands, and lives under constant threat. Tension in Tombo remains at alarming levels, leaving families in fear and uncertain of when the next attack may strike. Immediate action is critical to restore safety and support the affected population.
