An elderly man who had been reported missing has been found safe in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, prompting a public appeal for his family members to come forward and reunite with him.
The development was shared on Thursday, April 30, 2026, by human rights activist Ukan Kurugh, who received the information directly in his inbox. According to the message, the elderly man was discovered this morning by Mr. Orkumah Moses while at his place of work along Otukpo Road, Makurdi.
Mr. Orkumah Moses stated that the elderly man, referred to as “Papa,” is currently safe and being cared for at Welfare Quarters Junction in Makurdi. He urged anyone who may be searching for the missing person to contact him on 08137378153.
The activist posted a photograph of the elderly man, who appears to be in his late 70s or older, seated outdoors in a developing area with buildings visible in the background. He is described as bald with a short grey beard.
This latest alert comes amid growing concerns over missing persons cases in Benue State, following recent high-profile cases such as the disappearance of Terkura Msonga, who remains missing after being taken into custody by Operation Zenda in Gboko in August 2024.
Ukan Kurugh, known for consistently amplifying cases of missing individuals and human rights issues in the state, shared the message in the hope that the elderly man’s family would quickly identify and reclaim him.
As of the time of this report, it remains unclear how long the man had been missing or the circumstances that led to him being found along Otukpo Road. Residents of Makurdi and surrounding areas, as well as families with missing elderly relatives, have been advised to reach out to the provided contact number for possible identification and reunion.
Incidents of missing persons, particularly vulnerable elderly individuals, continue to highlight the challenges of safety and family support systems in parts of Benue State.
