Benue Students Deported from Belarus Over Unpaid Tuition Fees Spark Criticism of Governor Alia

Social media has been awash with reports and images of Benue students who were reportedly deported from Belarus by the government of that country due to failure to pay tuition fees.

Critics, including political commentator Asom D Jerry, have faulted Governor Hyacinth Alia, accusing his administration of failing the students despite substantial allocations to the state.

One of the affected students, Miss Benita Shuluwa, was reportedly calling for financial assistance from her father (known as “fada”) but was allegedly told he was struggling to sort out his own travel arrangements.

The development has raised concerns about the welfare of Benue students studying abroad and questions over the management of resources meant for education and youth development in the state.
