The Benue State Government has announced an ambitious project to construct a multi-wing airport along the Makurdi-Gboko road, aimed at addressing local challenges and boosting economic growth. The airport will feature international, domestic, and cargo wings, alongside an Export/Import Processing Zone, with the goal of alleviating the sufferings of Benue residents and enhancing regional trade.

The initiative was unveiled by Rev. Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, Commissioner for Lands and Survey, during a meeting with traditional rulers from the affected local government areas of Guma, Gboko, Gwer, and Tarka on Friday, September 26, 2025. The Commissioner revealed that the airport will be sited on the left-hand side of the road from Makurdi, immediately after the Agasha junction, while the Processing Zone will occupy the right-hand side, requiring up to 100 hectares of land.
