Hundreds of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the Makurdi International Market in Benue State are facing severe hardship, gathering daily at the market gate in search of menial jobs to survive.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Òr Turan highlighted the plight of these IDPs, noting that every morning as day breaks, they assemble in front of the gate desperately looking for work. Many of them lack food to eat and money to meet basic needs such as paying their bills.
The post appealed to members of the public with farm work (popularly known as “jodo”) to engage the IDPs and allow them to earn money and food. It further urged anyone seeking labourers to visit the location, emphasizing that help can come in various forms.
“If you have clothes, food or money, you can also go and give them,” the post read, ending with a simple but powerful call: “Help the IDPs.”
The situation reflects the ongoing challenges faced by displaced persons in Benue State, many of whom continue to struggle with limited access to basic necessities despite their willingness to work. Residents and well-meaning individuals in and around Makurdi have been encouraged to respond to this appeal by offering job opportunities or direct support to ease the suffering of these vulnerable citizens.
