Residents of Ansta and Anke communities along Uniagric Road in Makurdi have made an urgent public appeal to the Benue State Government, Makurdi Local Government Area Chairman, Governor Hyacinth Iormemem Alia, state lawmakers, and the federal representative for Guma/Makurdi Federal Constituency for the immediate provision of boreholes to address severe water scarcity in their villages.

The communities, located in one of Makurdi’s fast-growing peri-urban areas, say they have endured prolonged lack of access to clean and reliable potable water, forcing many households to depend on distant, often unsafe sources or expensive commercial water vendors. Villagers describe the situation as increasingly desperate, particularly during the dry season when alternative sources dry up completely.

In a widely circulated appeal shared on social media platforms on Thursday, February 19, 2026, the residents emphasized that the absence of functional boreholes has made daily domestic needs, personal hygiene, and small-scale farming activities extremely difficult. They warned that the situation could worsen without prompt intervention and called on the named authorities to prioritize their request before health and sanitation challenges escalate.

The plea highlights ongoing infrastructure gaps in several rural and semi-rural settlements around Makurdi, despite repeated promises of improved water supply under various state and federal interventions. Community leaders say the provision of motorized or solar-powered boreholes would bring immediate relief and significantly improve living standards for hundreds of families in Ansta and Anke.

No official response has been received from the state government, Makurdi LGA, or the federal constituency office at the time of this report. However, the public nature of the appeal underscores growing frustration among residents over delayed basic amenities in rapidly expanding communities near the state capital.
