The Idoma Area Traditional Council (IATC) in Benue State has moved to dispel rumors suggesting that President Bola Tinubu or the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) were involved in the recent suspension of traditional title conferments in Idoma land. In a statement released on Tuesday by Adegye Uloko, Secretary to the Ochidoma, the council clarified that neither Tinubu’s nor the SGF’s name appeared on any list of nominees submitted by the Igede Traditional Council for traditional titles.

The IATC explained that the suspension order, initially issued on August 19 and reaffirmed on September 2, was a general directive aimed at halting all conferments of chieftaincy titles by intermediate councils. This measure was put in place until due vetting and approval processes are completed. Uloko emphasized that the decision was not targeted at any individual but was intended to preserve cultural dignity, prevent the abuse of titles, and maintain the sanctity of Idoma customs.
